Dear Friends –
The Foundation is pleased to report on another rewarding year of activities, supporting the work of Greenwoods and the care and comfort of our residents. Our 2017 Annual Appeal resulted in a generous outpouring of community spirit and giving, increasing our project budget to $30,000.
Foundation projects this past year enabled some enhancements between the residents’ lounge and the dining space, as well as substantial funds made available for progress on the emergency disaster supply container. We continue to financially support external accredited education courses for Greenwoods Eldercare Society staff in aid of learning new skills and enhancing resident care in a compassionate and meaningful way. Ongoing planting and care of the Sunny Lane garden and patio is an annual Foundation priority. It is a place where residents, family and visitors can gather to enjoy sunshine, fresh air and special summer activities.
Two important projects for this year’s fundraising are to purchase a much needed Passenger Van for transporting residents and expand our community outreach services as well as enhancements to the dementia care wing. This will include a private patio garden to seasonally brighten the outlook for these residents and provide a beautiful, secure outdoor space for them.
It may interest you to know that through our outreach programs last year, Greenwoods utilized our bathing facilities 352 times for those in our community unable to safely bathe at home due to being housebound by age, disabilities, illness or surgery recovery. We also provided 369 adult daycare sessions to those in need throughout our island. A new Van will make all the difference for assisting those without transportation to utilize these greatly needed outreach services.
We wish to acknowledge the grateful financial support received during this past year from, the Vandekerkhove Family Foundation, Mouat’s Hardware, Country Grocer, Hazenboom Construction, the David & Joanna Southwell Fund, Salt Spring Island Women’s Institute, SEI Industries, our many community donors and our hardworking and dedicated staff. Our thanks also to Macdonald Realty and Luke Hart-Weller for again sponsoring and crafting the garden bench for our annual Fall Fair raffle.
