Above with Greenwoods Foundation, vice president, Victoria Woodman (left) is Greenwood’s resident, Agnes Huser who pulled the winning Fall Fair raffle ticket for the beautiful Garden Bench.

Our congratulations to this year’s winning ticket holder (ticket #228) Chris Westland of Shawnigan Lake who was thrilled and didn’t hesitate to say she already had the perfect spot in mind! Unfortunately, we were not able to snap a photo of Chris with her prize.

Greenwoods Foundation extends a big thank you for the overwhelming support and wish to extend a note of special appreciation to Luke Hart-Weller, the local artisan who designed and handcrafted this year’s Garden Bench and to Macdonald Realty for contributing the Garden bench for this year’s raffle.

Greenwoods Annual Appeal kicks-off October 15th with a bold fund raising goal of $45,000. The Foundation project this year is to remediate the residents bathing facilities and incorporate a large walk-in shower room for those in wheel chairs and with mobility challenges.

Pictured here is the 2012 bench raffle winner Victoria Anderson (right), enjoying the bench along with daughter Aidan. Victoria bought her winning ticket on the last day of the annual Fall Fair, literally purchasing the last ticket we had for sale. We hope you and your family enjoy it for a long time.

The bench is another fine example of hand-crafted workmanship by Mearnie Summers, local woodworking artist and long-time Greenwoods supporter – thank you Mearnie!

The raffle raised over $1000 dollars to be used for gardening supplies and improvements at both Greenwoods and Braehaven, along with a bonus $100 donation made by the kind folks at Foxglove Farm and Garden Supply. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and to our anonymous sponsors for donating this brand new bench for the raffle.

Pictured here is 2010 bench raffle winner, Mary Crickmore, who’s already enjoying a moment on her new bench in her front yard. Like our other bench winners, Mary knew she had a chance because she bought a ticket but really didn’t expect to win. The proceeds from the raffle were donated for the benefit of the Braehaven assisted living residents. Thank you to Mearnie for creating such a fine bench and to our anonymous sponsors who bought it from Mearnie and donated as the raffle prize. Since then Mary has told us she continues to enjoy the bench, whether it’s simply seeing it out her front window every day or sitting and enjoying when the weather is favourable.

Pictured here is the 2009 bench raffle winner Linda Doucette (middle) along with bench maker Mearnie Summers (left) and Foundation President Ken Jackson (right). Mearnie not only made this lovely bench herself, she donated it to the Foundation for use in the raffle. Proceeds from this raffle were combined with other Foundation funds to purchase an Oxygen Concentrator to make breathing easier for use by one of the Greenwoods’ residents. Thank you Mearnie for your workmanship and kind donation.
